A 33-year-old man has been arrested for being in possession of abalone worth R100 000 on Friday in Somerset West.
Metro Police Deputy Chief Yolanda Faro says, “Officers were doing their routine patrols when they received a tip off of a vehicle transporting abalone.”
“Police acted on the information and found the vehicle heading towards Somerset West with 233 unshelled abalone in six black bags,” she added.
The suspect was charged with possession of abalone.
