The South African Transport and Allied Workers’ Union today announced that it has called off the Metrorail strike in the Western Cape.
The union and the train operator are said to have reached an agreement following emergency talks yesterday.
The two parties were at each other’s throat over a proposed change to the shifts of the workers.
Satawu Provincial Secretary Thandubuntu Goto said they have since found middle ground.
Goto says they agreed with management that we need to go back to the old roster.
The new one still needs to be discussed nationally and the strike has officially been suspended.
