The National Sea Rescue Institute says a mother has drowned after saving her daughter at Mazeppa Bay on the Transkei Coast on Monday afternoon.
The woman went to save her 13-year-old daughter who swept out to sea while wading in only knee high water.
After saving her daughter she got into difficulty herself.
The shocked 13-year-old stayed on the beach while her 10-year-old sister ran to get help.
After an extensive search, the woman’s body was found washed up on the beach.
