The Presidency says remarks that President Jacob Zuma made about the impact of Christianity on indigenous knowledge systems have been reported on in a misleading manner.
According to his office, Zuma welcomed the start of Western culture but was worried about the undermining of some useful traditional ways of doing things.
These include the end of the extended family as an society, leading to the need for old age homes and orphanages.
This does not imply a negation of Christianity.
