A 89-year-old man was this afternoon rescued off Platteklip Gorge on Table Mountain.

This is after he became dehydrated due to the extreme hot conditions.

An emergency services helicopter was dispatched to airlift the patient off the mountain.

Provincial EMS Spokesperson Robert Daniels said Due to severe winds the helicopter rescue has been aborted and EMS intermediate life support personnel were deployed to administer treatment and assist the patient off the mountain.

"He was taken to Medi Clinic in a stable condition," Daniels added.
