The Western Cape Department of Education today briefed the Standing Committee on Education about different issues including the 2013 National Senior Certificate and plans to improve literacy and numeracy.

Committee Chairperson Cathy Labuschagne said education is key to the development of any young person , and this poses serious challenges especially for a country as complex and set apart as ours.

“A few things that stood out for me in the standing committee is that although there is a lot of pressure on the education system, more and more people are going to school and the population increased in the Western Cape.” Labuschagne added.

Labuschagne further added that in the matric results one thing that stood out for me is the increase of the Bachelor Degrees that is quality indicative.
