Numsa to strike for youth jobs

Lusanda Bill
25 February 2014

The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa in the Western Cape will on Wednesday strike demanding jobs for the youth.

The union has labelled the Employment Tax Incentive Bill as a false solution to youth employment.

The strike will take place on the same day Minister of Finance Pravin Gordhan is excepted to deliver his 2014 Budget Speech in Parliament.

Numsa Regional Secretary Vuyo Lufele said we reject this Employment Tax Incentive Bill because there is no guarantee that there will be training for workers.  For us this is about replacement of the old workers by the sub contract workers.

Lufele said this bill will create problems for the working community because those that are getting good salaries will also run for this for as long as they are able to get these salaries.
