Western Cape MEC of Community Safety Dan Plato said the province has provided almost R2.5 million in financial assistance to organisations working to develop youth social crime intervention initiatives.

MEC Plato said many children and youth have limited access to supervised recreational opportunities especially in areas affected by crime and domestic violence.

Ministerial Spokesperson Greg Wagner said MEC Plato announced that the intentions of the Western Cape Government is to continue the partnership with the religious community to provide youth safety programmes for the youth of the Western Cape.

“More than 20 000 youth have already benefited from these programmes, which happen over the school holiday period.
