On Wednesday a group of about ten males allegedly jumped over a fence at Uitsig School and some of them entered a grade 9 classroom, whereby they assaulted a Grade 9 pupil allegedly with a piece of wood.

Western Cape Department of Education said three of the boys were learners from the school and were absent on the day, and they will be facing disciplinary action.

Ministerial Spokesperson Bronagh Casey said the WCED is concerned about this incident and any recent reports of any other forms of intimidation or violence against learners outside the specific school.

Casey said earlier this week a meeting was held between WCED officials, the CPF of Ravensmead, SAPS and the SGB of the school and management team to try and determine ways that we can assist the school such as extra teachers, increase use of metal detectors and more parental involvement and support” Casey added.
