As today marks the halfway point for the matriculants writing their 2014 National Senior Certificate examinations, the Western Cape Education Department has urged learners to remain focused.

The department said despite two incidents which were beyond its control the exams are progressing smoothly.

These two incidents were a power cut and an accident which caused transportation delays.

Ministerial Spokesperson Jessica Shelver said this is the final stretch after a long 12 year school career, so these last few weeks are critical.

MEC Debbie Schafer today also visited the Elsies River Secondary School where the matrics were writing their Economics Paper 2.
