The Department of Basic Education has confirmed that the task team set up to investigate the alleged selling of teacher posts has started its work.

Several reports earlier this year had alleged that some members of the South African Democratic Teachers Union sold principal and deputy principle posts.

The task team will be headed by Professor John Volmink.

The departments Elijah Mhlanga said in the past week the team interviewed some members representing the unions themselves because the work is still at the early stages where information gathering is still taking place.

Mhlanga said the task team will be visiting various provinces and at a later stage the task team will make an announcement on how submissions and evidence can be presented to the team.
