Western Cape Police Commissioner, Arno Lamoer has welcomed the arrests of 10 police officers based at the Parow police station.

The officials, which includes a sergeant, eight Constables and one former employee have been charged with corruption and fraud.

In a statement Lamoer said the charges will send out a strong message to all police officials that bad elements within the service will not be tolerated.

Police’s Fc van Wyk said the suspects were arrested by the members of the Provincial Anti-Corruption Unit which became operational from September 2014.
Van Wyk added that the team comprises investigators and Crime Intelligence officials. The unit was established in line with the SAPS National Anti-Corruption Strategy which seeks to root out fraud and corruption within the South African Police Service.
