Western Cape Police
Commissioner, Arno Lamoer has welcomed the arrests of 10 police officers based
at the Parow police station.
The officials,
which includes a sergeant, eight Constables and one former employee have been
charged with corruption and fraud.
In a statement
Lamoer said the charges will send out a strong message to all police officials
that bad elements within the service will not be tolerated.
Police’s Fc van
Wyk said the suspects were arrested by the members of the Provincial
Anti-Corruption Unit which became operational from September 2014.
Van Wyk added
that the team comprises investigators and Crime Intelligence officials. The
unit was established in line with the SAPS National Anti-Corruption Strategy
which seeks to root out fraud and corruption within the South African Police
Service.
