Western Cape Traffic
Authorities conducted 24 roadblocks across the province of which 2 581
vehicles were stopped and checked and 1 143 drivers were tested for
alcohol.
During the roadblocks 34
drunken drivers were arrested and the highest alcohol reading was recorded in
the Beaufort West area.

Africa said we arrested two drivers for being in possession of false
documentation and then there was three drivers arrested for being in possession
of drugs.
Africa said two was arrested
in Brackenfell for being in possession of dagga another one arrested in
Beaufort West for possession of drugs.
Africa said we arrested one
driver on the N2 outside Swellendam for overloading his goods vehicle and one
person was arrested for reckless and negligent driving in the Somerset West
area.

another driver was arrested for driving at an excessively high speed.
Africa said in the total
amount of fines that were issued was R294 150.
Meanwhile during the
roadblocks 15 819 motor vehicles were tested for speed and 1 178
drivers were prosecuted for exceeding the speed limit.
The highest speed was recorded
in Oudtshoorn and on the N1 between Worcester and Paarl.
Over the weekend nine people
died on the province roads.

Africa said five pedestrians died in motor vehicle accidents.
Africa said one in Atlantis,
one in Bishop lavis and another pedestrian in Khayelitsha.
Africa said one lost his life
in Kraaifontein and in Observatory another pedestrian died in a motor vehicle
accident.
Africa said there were two
drivers who lost their lives in accidents over this weekend one in observatory.
“In another motor vehicle
accident the driver died in Table View then also in Paarl we lost one cyclist in
a motor vehicle accident and in Stellenbosch another cyclist died due to a
motor vehicle accident Africa added.
