The African National Congress has criticized the Democratic Alliance for what it calls its “disregard for women and the perpetuation of gender stereotyping”.
ANC’s caucus leader in the Western Cape Provincial Parliament Mcebisi Skwatsha, has attacked the DA’s prejudice on gender issues in a political debate.
Skwatsha pointed out the political exclusion of women heads of departments in the Western Cape government by the DA, the DA’s failure to appoint another woman under Premier Helen Zille in the provincial cabinet and for its signature song at political events: “Koekie Loekie.”
Skwatsha says he doesn’t believe Zille would, as a woman herself, would sing the song on national television.
The ANC has also criticized Zille for cutting back on women’s programmes and her refusal to celebrate with women days like National Women’s Day.
