A man in his twenties drowned at a Durban beach this morning. It is believed that the man went swimming on the Durban south beach just in front of the Tropicana when he got into difficulty.
Lifeguards raced to the man's aid and after pulling him out of the water passionately tried to save him.
Netcare 911 spokesperson Chris Botha says paramedics arrived on scene and assisted with attempts to save the man for some time.
Unfortunately they were unable to revive the man and he was declared dead on scene.
