The Department of International Relations says President Jacob Zuma did try to intervene in the case of the South African woman who has been executed in China today.
The department says Zuma tried all means, including the highest possible intervention methods, to convince the Chinese authorities not to go ahead with the execution.
Janice Linden was arrested at a Chinese airport in 2008 after three kilograms of tik was found in her luggage.
She had previously said she did not know how the drugs got into her luggage.
