Eight of the nine mineworkers who went missing on Tuesday were found dead this morning at Harmony Gold Mine in Doornkop on Gauteng's West Rand.

The miners were unaccounted for since Tuesday when a fire broke out at the mine.

Harmony Gold Spokesperson James Duncan said rescue workers are continuing their search for one mineworker who is still unaccounted for.

Operation on the mine has been suspended and an investigation into the deaths is underway.

Meanwhile the National Union of Mineworkers said it is saddened by the deaths of the eight mineworkers.  Num has called for mining companies to take responsibility for this incident.
