The Western Cape Department of Education
said a Grade 10 learner from Parel Vallei High School in Somerset West
was attacked on Monday afternoon after he was stabbed with a knife.
Ministerial Spokesperson Bronagh Casey said
the learner sustained injuries to his neck area and he needed stitches.
Casey said now the school has reported an
increase in crime against learners when walking home from school over the last
two weeks. Learners have reportedly been
approached by strangers demanding cellphones or personal possessions.
“The school has reported the incident to the
police and has asked for increased visibility around the school community
however the school has not had any threats from within the school all theses
cases are outside of the school” Casey added.
