The Western Cape Department of Education
said 80 percent of late enrolment learners in the province come from the Eastern Cape and they largely
go to the metro area.
The WCED has enrolled 19 857 learners
from the Eastern Cape and majority of
these learners are entering Grade R.
WCED MEC Donald Grant said in a flow of
people coming into the province since 2010, of 131 834 about 9 456 are coming
in from outside the country and most of them come from the Eastern Cape and most of them
go to the metro area.
Grant said there are also two districts
that experience late enrolments, metro East and district north is most under
pressure.
He added that this influx of people put
pressure on the departments` annual budget as they need to accommodate these
learners.
