A family of five escapes an apartment fire in Hillbrow

ER24 paramedics this aftternoon attended to an incident in Hillbrow Johannesburg whereby a family of five lost all their belongings when their apartment caught alight.  

ER24 Spokesperson Luyanda Majija said when paramedics arrived on location they were told that the youngest child, aged 4-years-old, ran out of the bathroom screaming that one of the bedrooms had caught fire. She along with her teenage siblings and their mother immediately ran out of the apartment.

Majija added that their father stayed behind to grab the gas heater out of fear that it would cause an explosion. He suffered from smoke inhalation.

The exact cause of the fire is still not clear but police are invetsigating the incident.
