Minister Mthethwa saddened by latest death in Mothutlung

Police Minister Nathi Mthethwa said he is saddened by the death of another person who died in Mothutlung outside Brits in the North West. 

The man died in hospital after suffering injuries during the protest.

The death brings the total number of people who died during the recent violent protest to three. 

Residents in the area have been protesting over shortage of water.  Minister Mthethwa said should the Independent Investigative Directorate identify any police officials as suspects, the South African Police Service will immediately institute internal disciplinary processes. 

Ministerial Spokesperson Zweli Mnisi said Police Minister has offered his messages of condolences to the family and also assured the public that the police will investigate this and whoever that is responsible must face the full might of the law.

Mnisi added that the Ministry understands that prior to this communication between the public and the police was good in the area but the Ministry will do its best to remedy the situation.
