The
Congress of South African Trade Unions in Limpopo is highly displeased by the
eviction and ill-treatment of Itsoseng Development Centre, a group of up to 50
SMME’s, by the Polokwane Municipality.
These
SMME’s have been operating at Polokwane Socio-Economic Centre, Polokwane bus
rank, from 2004 till their eviction on the 05th April 2016.
COSATU
Provincial Secretary Gerald Mkhomazi Twala says in a statement today
the main reason for their eviction is the outstanding services accounts owed to
the municipality since 2004.
He says
their office have seen a ridiculous municipal accounts statement from one of
the SMME’s, Monnye Projects, owing a total of R 27 699.75 as of July 2016
and interests is increasing every month.
From
their explanation the reason for the addition of the debts is that at some
point officials of the municipality informed them to stop paying given the challenges,
which were experienced with their billing system.
