The institution has been named Africa’s best institution for physical science.

This comes after it received an accolade from the Nature Index 2016 for its published work in the field of science.

Their contribution to this field has put South Africa on the map.

The university’s Professor Roy Maartens is believed to have questioned whether South Africa has a science community to exploit the instrument that will be brought by the Square Kilometre Array Project.
