A Ladysmith liquor outlet owner has brought to the South African Police Services’ attention an incident which they believe to be a scam.

The owner of the liquor outlet received an SMS requesting that he make a deposit of R250 for the renewal of the liquor licence.

Lieutenant Colonel Thulani Zwane said that he would like to warn liquor license owner and that they must make sure they do not become victims of this scam, with regards to people asking liquor license holders to deposit money to renew their licenses.

Upon receiving such SMSes it is advised to first verify the bank details before handing over any money and to ensure that the Liquor Authority is contacted in order to verify the contents of the SMS.
