Climate Action Network International today said there is still a lot of work to be done in the next few hours at COP17.
Alden Meyer from the Union of Concerned Scientists says they don’t look at these negotiations as to how many decisions can be made and how many papers can be issued, but on can we save the planet.
Meyer added that there are four elements that can help countries in staying below the 2 degree Celsius mark that was agreed upon two years ago. Firstly to see a continuation of the Kyoto Protocol, secondly there needs to be a roadmap here in Durban with a clear progress and timeline of negotiations no later then 2015, thirdly an aggressive work plan to close the so called ambition gap and lastly to there is a need for a clear process and timetable to ramp up climate finance to help developing countries.
Harjeet Singh from ActionAid International said good progress has been made concerning adaptation. Singh is also hopeful that the Green Climate Fund will be operationalised in Durban.
WWF Europe Jason Anderson said the European Union needs to live up to their promises that they have made in the past few days. #COP17
