The Disaster Risk Management Centre in the Western Cape have urged the public to be extra careful around fires.

A number of people have died and scores have been left destitute as temperatures rise and windy conditions create conditions conducive to the spread of blazes.

The Cape Town’s Disaster Risk Management Centre has embarked on a campaign to educate people about how to protect themselves around fires.

The latest incident is of an 18-month old baby who died in a shack fire on Monday.
