An accident in Midrand this morning claimed the lives of three people and several people were injured.

It is believed that the two taxis were traveling in opposite directions on the R55 between the N14 and the Summit Road, when they collided into each other.

The exact details of the accident are being investigated by police.

ER24’s Vanessa Jackson said when paramedics arrived at the scene they found that the vehicles were extensively damaged and there were passengers that were trapped in the wreckage.

Jackson also said the one driver was declared dead on the scene and the other two people died while they were receiving treatment.

She added that the injured passengers were treated on the scene before being transported to a nearby hospital.
