Police are investigating the circumstances that lead to the death of one person.
The accident took place on the N3 southbound near Harrismith in the early hours of today, and two people were injured in the collision.
Netcare 911 Spokesperson Santi Steinmann said when paramedics arrived on scene they found two heavy goods vehicles had collided leaving one person dead.
Steinmann also the injured were treated on scene before they were transported to a nearby hospital.
