A Steenberg principal has told of an attack by a pupil on a Grade 1 teacher, who then had to be booked off for stress.

It was reported that the incident at Floreat Primary School in Steenberg, had happened last year.

He said most of the pupils of the school were well-behaved and despite the attacks on teachers being seen as isolated incidents, it was a cause for concern.

Western Cape Education Department Spokesperson Paddy Attwell said the school had experienced problems of the kind in the past.

Attwell also said the District office at the time implemented a programme called the Positive Behaviour Programme aimed at training teachers in dealing with conduct of this nature.

“The programme was very successful and was used as an example of best practice; it does appear that the problem might have resurfaced again, and the District Office continue to assist the school as it deals with this problem” Attwell added.
