Education Department said SADTU strike is illegal

The National Department of Basic Education said the planned strike by the South African Democratic Teachers Union is illegal.

The Department has already put systems in place to ensure that those embarking on this unprotected strike will be subjected to disciplinary processes  Sadtu has planned a protest in Pretoria and Cape Town on Wednesday.  

Ministerial Spokesperson Panyaza Lesufi said that they will take appropriate action against striking teachers.

“The no-work-no-pay rule will apply, but those who are seen as being coordinators this activity will be subjected to disciplinary action” Lesufi added.
