The Criminal Law Amendment Bill also known as the DNA Bill will finally be discussed in Parliament.

This is after a five year delay.  If the DNA Bill is made into law it will increase the size of the national DNA database.

It was reported that more than one million South African children have been raped since the bill was first presented to the cabinet.

Executive Director of DNA Project Vanessa Lynch said the reason that this will help police solve crimes is that DNA is found in so many places in a crime scene, specifically in contact crimes and violent such as rape.

Lynch also said that it will help to make criminals accountable for their crimes.

“We are talking about real evidence, DNA evidence that can be used to link a suspect to a particular crime” Lynch added.
