MEC Alan Winde: Mining Indaba a big boost for the economy

The Western Cape MEC of Finance, Economic Development and Tourism Alan Winde said the 2014’s Mining Indaba which is taking place in Cape Town provides a boost for the local tourism sector. 

Over 8 000 delegates are attending the conference which started today. 

MEC Winde also said the conference illustrates the importance of the conferencing industry for the economy. 

Winde said if you look at the success of this conference from 2006 to 2013, in the last 7 years has contributed about R485 million to our local economy and it has created 4 000 direct and in direct jobs.

“So what this is really is Cape Town playing host to some of the bigger businesses, Africa has got fastest growing economies in the world, and seven out of the top team comes from Africa. So this is a very important showcase for business across the world” Winde added.
