The blanket ban on abalone or perlemoen fishing was lifted yesterday.
However the Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Ministry says details will only be released in February 2010.
In media reports Minister Tina Joemat Pettersen made the announcement about the lifting of the ban while accompanying President Jacob Zuma.
The minister was accompanying the President during his feedback meeting in Hawston with the fishing community of the Overberg region.
Pettersen told the large gathering that the fishing community must come to the party to protect the perlemoen stocks and that poaching must be stopped.
