The International Association of Athletics Federations has announced that it will pay for any surgery or treatment that will allow athlete Caster Semenya to compete as a woman if her gender tests fail.
According to The Examiner the announcement seems to indicate acknowledgment that Semenya is intersexed, and that some form of medical treatment will be required to protect her health.
The IAAF stresses that the 800-metres world champion’s medical details will be kept confidential.
