The African National Congress Youth League in the Western Cape has welcomed the withdrawal of cases against four Valhalla Park protesters who were arrested on Wednesday.

The four were arrested after a fire broke out leaving eight shacks gutted and residents suspected the fire was an arson attack.

Valhalla Park residents burnt tyres on Wednesday demanding proper houses from the City of Cape Town.

ANC Youth League Convenor Muhammad Khalid Sayed the ANCYL will be assisting the four when they appear in and they will stand in solidarity with the people of the informal settlements.

On the other hand the ANC Youth League in the province said residents of Valhalla Park have every right to fight for their basic human rights.

ANC Youth League Convenor Muhammad Khalid Sayed said it is unfortunate that sometimes institutionalized brutality is used to intimidate people instead of dealing with their real issues.

He called upon the police Minister Nathi Mthethwa to be abuse their power because force was used in handling the residents of Valhalha Park when they held their protest.
