The City of Cape Town has confirmed that it has completed rehousing of Valhalla Park fire victims.

More than 1 500 people were left homeless when a fire ripped through the area.

The city started a process of registering the victims of the fire and comparing this with the City’s database, cleaning the wreckage, leveling the area, pegging outs plots and issuing building kits.

Mayoral Committee Member for Human Settlement Tandeka Gqada said people have been placed on allocated sites and have been provided with enhanced fire kit.

“In addition to that 200 portable flushed toilets have been ordered for families who have expressed interests in them and the electricity department will be re-installing the electricity infrastructure very soon,” Gqada added.
