Seven Public Order Police officials were arrested on Sunday for extorting money from two Chinese shops in Milnerton. Intelligence led to the arrest of an eighth suspect in Harere on Monday, who is also from the Public Order Police division.
“Members of Provincial Detectives also took
three civilians, one male who is a former police officer and two females in for
questioning relating to the same incident,” said Colonel Andrè Traut, Western
Cape police spokesperson.
Investigations are not yet concluded.
“Detectives are preparing the case docket for
the suspects’ court appearance in Cape Town Magistrates’ court on Wednesday where
they will face charges of extortion, business robbery and corruption,” said
Colonel Traut.
