The National Commissioner of the South African Police Service (SAPS), General Fannie Masemola, has commended the arrest of a 43-year-old Sergeant from Limpopo.
She was detained after a lengthy investigation by Captain Keshi Mabunda, who uncovered allegations of fraudulent benefits from funeral and life insurance policies.

Starting her crimes in 2019, the Sergeant targeted vulnerable individuals, including those from impoverished backgrounds and disabled persons, taking out policies in their names and naming herself as the beneficiary.
She is linked to about six insurance-related
murders and is believed to have gained at least R10 million. General Masemola
condemned her actions as disgraceful.
“As a police officer you are entrusted with the
safety and security of communities. For a police officer entrusted with such a
great responsibility to be involved in such acts is an absolute disgrace. She
abused her powers by insuring those that trusted her. This must send a strong
warning to all involved that the long arm of the law will find you and catch
you”, said Gen Masemola.
The Sergeant will appear in the Polokwane District
Court on six murder charges and around seventeen fraud counts on Friday.
