Western Cape police made a breakthrough when they arrested a 17-year-old boy who is accused of being behind a double murder in Athlone.
The teenager is believed to be one of three
suspects who opened fire at a residents in front of a house in Nerina Close,
Athlone, last Thursday,fatally shot and killed two men while another man was
admitted to hospital with a gunshot wound.
‘’The investigation team went the proverbial
extra mile, pursuing all the available information in order to effect an
arrest. Their persistence were rewarded when they arrested a 17 year old male
on Wednesday 09 October 2024,’’ said Warrant Officer Joseph Swartbooi, Western
Cape police spokesperson.
The suspect will make his court appearance in
the Athlone Magistrates’ court on Friday on two counts of murder and attempted
murder.
‘’The Western Cape Provincial Commissioner , Lt
Gen (Adv.) Thembisile Patekile lauded the tenacity of the investigating team
attached to the Anti-Gang unit who worked tirelessly to ensure a breakthrough
in a double murder and attempted murder,’’ said Swartbooi.
