The Committee to Protect Journalists has expressed concern over the Protection of State Information Bill.
The New York organisation met with ANC spokesperson Jackson Mthembu in Johannesburg this week.
Its chairperson Sandra Mims-Rowe urged the government not to pursue with the so-called Secrecy Bill in its current form.
Mims-Rowe says South Africa is seen as a beacon of freedom throughout the world and this image should be protected.
