Traut has as urged the public to participate by phoning 08600 10 111 if they have any information pertaining to the disappearance of the baby.

Meanwhile the Western Cape Department of Social Development has promised to assist in the prosecution of the 29 year-old mother is found guilty of neglecting her child.

Social Development MEC Albert Fritz said his department will work together with the police and the social workers.

Fritz explains that the department is very concerned that whenever there is a holiday period there are mothers who act incredibly irresponsible, when it comes to the caring of their children and in this instance they will really work in a very concerted way with the police and assist them in the investigation in order to get the mother to be fully prosecuted.

Fritz adds that the department will urge to court to give her the harshest sentence possible for neglecting her child as this is completely unacceptable.

“Every year over major holidays the public is asked to take extra care of their children and still children go missing and this places a huge burden on the state,” Fritz said.
