Almost a thousand people were arrested at a demonstration against climate change in Copenhagen.

What started as a peaceful demonstration calling for action on climate change, descended into rioting as hundreds of masked youths threw bricks and smashed windows in the Danish capital.

Media reported that police in riot gear arrested almost a thousand people, who were cuffed and forced to the ground, before being taken away in vans.

Police said four cars were set on fire during the evening, whilst one policeman was hurt by a stone and a Swedish man injured by a firework.

At least 30-thousand protestors took part in the demonstration.
