Security surrounding the draw for the 2010 World Cup has already been severely tested – on the ground and in the air.
Police say a man has been arrested for making a hoax call during which he said he had planted a bomb at the Cape Town International Airport.
A short while later sniffer dogs could be seen checking the Convention Centre after another call about a bomb being planted. The Centre has been declared to be safe.
Earlier, deputy police commissioner Andre Pruis told journalists that two light aircraft detected flying in restricted space above the City during the week had been forced to land.
He says that at no stage was foul play suspected, but they are taking no chances.
