South Africa’s security operations around the 2010 Soccer World Cup final draw came through exceptionally today.
This follows after members of the police arrested a foreign journalist after he made a hoax bomb threat outside the City’s Convention Centre.
"The 68 year-old male suspect is currently under police custody," said police spokesperson Superintendent Billy Jones.
A South African was also arrested in the southern suburbs within minutes of making hoax calls about bombs at the Cape Town International Airport.
Police says the journalist claimed he had an explosive machine in his bag, which he dropped and then tried to flee the scene.
Police would not reveal the journalist’s nationality, but say he could face a jail sentence.
Meanwhile media reports from Long Street that there is still room for people wishing to join the huge street party and to watch the draw on big screen TV’s.
Police say they are not aware of any trouble in Long Street since this morning.
Every one entering the separate area is searched by metal detectors.
