A Johannesburg city official has been trapped on camera trying to solicit a bribe from a resident.
The resident, who wishes to remain anonymous, said how he recorded a city official telling him that if he paid three-thousand-700 rands he would organise to have the resident’s electricity meter reconnected.
The resident had got behind with his payments and the meter was shut down.
The official told him that if he paid up, the meter would be restored the same day, adding: “What do you say?”
The resident had been asked to go to counter 35 at the council’s Jorissen Street offices before being asked to come into an office. He said the official’s intent was clear.
