Two men from Delft are due to appear in the Bellville Magistrate’s Court today on charges of counterfeit money.
The suspects aged 40 and 42 were arrested on Saturday after police received an information that counterfeit money is being used at a local shebeen.
Police spokesperson Captain Joe Wilson says they embarked on a search at a house at 76 Montclava Street Wesbank where they seized money with a monetary value of close to R50 000, all counterfeit money, R100 and R200 notes as well as printing equipment to print the fake money.
Six men were arrested during the raid, but four were released after being questioned.
“During the search we arrested two males, aged 42 and 44 years, both residing in Wesbank. We then continued with the investigation and later brought in three more males aged, 32, 37 and 44 years, for questioning,” he said.
A 40 year old suspect was also arrested in The Hague, Delft after police set a trap and seized R60 000 counterfeit money in his possession.
“We appeal to individuals or business that had fallen victims to the scam to contact Detective Inspector Jacobus Petersen at Delft SAPS on 021 954 9000.
