Five suspects have been arrested in Phillipi-East following three separate murders on Sunday.

In the first incident, it is believed that the deceased had been watching a game of soccer with friends, when they were joined by another group of men.

An argument ensued between the two groups, leaving one person fatally wounded.

The deceased was shot in the head.

One suspect was later arrested at his home.

Meanwhile, three suspects allegedly stabbed and fatally wounded a woman at a church yard in the area.

“The deceased came out of the church and told the suspects to go away as they were making a noise. The suspects allegedly stabbed and fatally wounding the deceased on her body,” said police spokesperson Inspector Nondumiso Paul.

A tip off from the suspects’ sister led to the arrest of the three suspects. They were allegedly hiding in Khayelitsha.

The three, aged between 19 and 20 years old reside in Lower Cross Roads.

Later that day, a woman from the Bekela Squatter Camp in the area, was allegedly shot in the head after she resisted two suspects attempts at robbing her of cash and her cell phone.

A 19 year old suspect was later arrested.

The other suspect is still at large.

All five suspects appeared in the Ahlone Magistrate Court on Monday and Tuesday.

They face charges of murder.

Anyone with information surrounding the incident is requested to contact Detective Inspector Bernies Basson on 079 880 9801 or on (021) 370 1900.
