Cape Town construction companies are spending up to R100 000
a month for armed guards to protect building sites from theft.

Media reports that Cape Town Stadium has also been affected.

The city’s 2010 spokesman, Pieter Cronje, says security has been tightened because of theft, but the value is "insignificant" compared to the total 4-point-5 billion Rands cost of the project.

The on-site project manager, Silas Darby, says kilometres of earthing cable had been stolen, as well as the fixing materials on the cladding and sanitary ware.
