Two paramedics were last night held at gunpoint in NY4 Gugulethu.

It is believed that the two ER24 paramedics were dispatched to the area for a medical emergency when while they were attending to a patient at the back of the ambulance a man with a gun approached them.

Last year two paramedics were assaulted in Eerste River.

ER24 Spokesperson Werner Vermaak said a man slammed his gun on the side of the window and demanded that they open the vehicle or he will shoot them.  They opened the ambulance and demanded cash and cellphones.  He later fled with cellphones as well as two radio’s from ER24 which was later blocked.

Vermaak said he tried to rip the serene unit and failed to do so and fled on foot.  None of the paramedics were injured and the matter has been reported to the police for investigation.

Meanwhile a woman in her thirties died this is after she was knocked over by a light motor vehicle on the N19 in Pinetown.

ER24 Spokesperson Luyanda Majija said the woman was trying to cross the highway on a blind pass when she was knocked over.

Majija said upon examination paramedics discovered that the woman sustained multiple severe injuries; they declared her dead on the scene.

“Pedestrian are urged to make good use of the bridges erected along the highways” Majija added.
