Vandalism of optic fibre cable resulting in Cape train delays

Metrorail says commuters can expect delays on Wednesday after it is experiencing telecommunications outage.

In a statement, the passenger rail agency says that the cause of the outage is due to optic fiber cable being vandalised on the Diep River line.

Spokesperson, Nana Zenani said that there’s no value to optic fiber, but yet it’s being vandalized

“Technicians have introduced a partial train service in response to the vandalised optic fiber cable. Unfortunately, the train arrangements will exempt one to this train service.”

‘’A shuttle service will operate between Belville and Kraaifontein. Most lines are still affected, unfortunately,’’ Zenani added.
